In a Facebook post, Mustapha emphasized the importance of wrapping up these internal discussions before looking at alliances with other parties or coalitions. “We appreciate the Sabah chief minister’s recent proposal for a seat negotiation committee under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to foster political stability and a stronger partnership,” he noted.
The Sabah PH coalition is committed to a fair and inclusive approach in these negotiations, covering a range of positions from appointed assemblymen to posts in government-linked companies, and local community roles. This approach reflects the coalition's aim to ensure representation and balance at all levels of governance.
Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional (BN) and GRS have both expressed willingness to work with PH in the upcoming Sabah election, which must be held by October 2025. BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reaffirmed this collaborative stance, stating that BN and PH’s alignment would be the foundation for their alliance in Sabah. He added that this approach was backed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a recent unity government secretariat meeting.
On a related note, Sabah’s Chief Minister Hajiji Noor mentioned that GRS would also set up a committee to discuss electoral strategies with coalition partners, including PH. However, major GRS parties like Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku and Parti Bersatu Sabah continue to push for local parties to play a dominant role in the state’s administration.
